Getting Started With Whole Foods/Real Foods

Real foods and whole foods are the closest to nature, these include foods in their natural state, organic, local grown and unprocessed. Your journey towards health and wellness, and weight loss is incomplete without incorporation of whole foods in your diet. Yes, we know, working out is very important, but eating the right foods go a long way in helping you achieve your weight loss and health goals. Fortunately, it is not at all difficult to find foods that are grown locally; you can get supplies of organic fruits and vegetables from your local farmer’s market. Now there are online services that can deliver right to your door.

Start making little changes in your diet, avoid processed foods that are so readily available, rather focus on eating natural foods and cooking at home. It is wise to always read the labels of what you’re buying, read for calories counter, sugar content, fats in the ingredients label, if there are more ingredients you’re not familiar with, you better skip buying the product. Avoid packaged foods with artificial sweeteners, and high fructose corn syrup. Eat fast foods as long as you make them at home, yourself. Make baked goods and sweets at home; this will help cut the frequency of these items in your diet.

Real foods come from natural sources, basically from your local farmer’s market, whole foods that are not an industrial product. Fruits and vegetables that you can buy from your local farmer’s market, a visit once a week to your local farmer’s market is recommended. Dairy products are real foods, as long as these don’t contain artificial sweeteners and flavors, also get milk, cheese and eggs from your local farmer’s market. Buy whole wheat and whole grains, read the label when selecting whole grain cereals, rice, pasta, or crackers. The product shouldn’t be a mixture of whole and refined grains.
Try buying your bread from a local bakery that is made of whole-wheat flour, water and yeast. The less are the ingredients on the label of any product, the better. You can find fresh, seasonal produce from a local farmer’s market, most selection of the foods in a farmer’s market are pesticide free, which is another advantage. You can also buy locally-raised meat products from the farmer’s market. Try using natural sweeteners like pure honey and pure maple syrup, instead of white sugar. Natural juices, and tea are fine, tea should be taken in moderation. Whenever you feel like having a snack craving, have some nuts, or any dried fruit and home made popcorns.

Take baby steps

It took me quite a while to totally take the whole food plunge. I always avoided the kitchen but the more food you prepare yourself the better off you will be. What are the benefits?

Eating whole foods will improve digestion, enhance immune system, and will eventually improve mood disorders and illnesses related to poor diet. Avoiding genetically modified foods (GMO) and trans fats will have long-term positive health implications. If you’re unable to find meat that is grass-fed, better stick with plant based diet. Eat fish, preferably wild caught, and not farm raised. Fish will give you the beneficial omega 3, and would reduce the risk of heart diseases. Drinking vegetable and fruit based smoothies in the morning will have beneficial affects on the health, plus will instantly elevate energy levels and stimulate clarity of mind.

Start adding these whole foods and natural foods into your diet, and you would start feeling a positive and great change in yourself; you’ll feel less fatigue, more energy, better mental cognition, less digestive problems, and the best of all weight loss!
