Anti-inflammatory Foods You Need To Get Familiar With

Foods have healing properties; organic and natural foods such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains and seeds have antioxidants to fight off the cellular oxidative damage and anti-inflammatory compounds to protect the body. Though, there are plenty of foods that have anti-inflammatory properties, there are foods people are not very familiar with and have potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.

Purslane is a crispy weed that can be used in salads; the plant is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants; melatonin and glutathione. The plant has zinc that supports the immune system and soluble fiber to heal the gut.

Kohlrabi is a vegetable member of the kale and broccoli family, it is a crunchy and crispy veggie that can be used in salads and be eaten with hummus. It is a good source of antioxidant vitamin C.

Marionberries are a black berry variety, it contains anti-inflammatory anthocyanin and phytochemicals that help fight off cancer. These berries can be preserved by freezing them or can be used in making jam.

Burdock root provides beneficial bacteria to the gut and helps in reducing inflammation of the gut, the fiber Inulin helps grow the beneficial digestive bacteria in the gut. But this plant can be problematic for people with irritable bowel syndrome. It also supports the bones by providing calcium and magnesium.

Shiitake mushrooms have potent anti-inflammatory properties due to its beta-glucan content, and these mushrooms can be used in a variety of dishes.

These healthy and delicious vegetables can be bought from your local farmer’s market; it is a good idea to explore the local farmer’s market for new fruits and vegetables. Always try to get organic, seasonal and fresh produce. It is important to note that these anti-inflammatory foods are not weight loss foods, though many of these fiber-rich foods my assist in weight loss, and all these foods should be eaten for their nutrients and not solely for the purpose of losing weight.  Enjoy!
